If you are not sure about
one or more of the following points, a massage should not be performed unless
your authorized doctor advices you to do so.
1 Pregnancy During the
first trimester a massage might be unbeneficial. However, a miscarriage due to
a light relaxation massage is not expected. On the other hand, if you suffer a
miscarriage, it is good to know that there is no link between a massage and a
miscarriage. If you take massage during your pregnancy, the lower body should
not be worked on and some massage techniques should not be used.
2 Heart
Attack In the first three months after a heart attack a massage presents an
incalculable risk. You should not have a massage without a medical
recommendation.
3 Stroke In the first three months after a stroke a
massage presents an incalculable risk. You should not have a massage without a
medical recommendation.
4 Vein Inflammation If you have varicose
veins, you should not have massage treatments in these areas. If you are not
sure, ask your doctor to authorize the massage.
5 Rheumatism and
Arthritis In case of acute inflammation you should definitely consult your
doctor to authorize the massage.
6 Cardiac Pacemaker If you have a
cardiac pacemaker, you should not have massage treatments without a
recommendation of your doctor.
7 Skin Diseases If you have a skin
infection, a massage can make it even worse - the infection can be spread to
other areas of the body. Moreover, you can infect the therapist.
8
Epilepsy During a massage an epileptic seizure can be caused
especially during deep relaxation.
9 Mental Disorders/Illnesses If
you suffer from a mental disorder (with the exception of a milder psychological
disorder), you should not have massage in particular the deep relaxation
massage. There is a danger of revealing mechanisms at the subconscious
level.
This is not a complete list of all contraindications. If you
doubt, whether there are some physical or psychical reasons not to have a
massage, consult an authorized doctor of medicine.
A massage therapist
is normally not a doctor of medicine. From the juridical and medical point of
view make sure that an authorized doctor recommends you a massage. |
